St Nicolas was
a bishop in the fourth century. He cared for people and
taught them about Jesus.

Father
Andrew’s informal
report of
the last PCC meeting
We met on Monday 18th
February for the last meeting before the Annual Church Meeting –
which will be after the 10am Parish Mass on Sunday 17th
March.
Among the matters we
discussed:
-
we looked forward to receiving more insights from our local
Community Audit, which we hope to have soon;
-
final preparations for welcoming Upper Room Ministries
to use our church for worship on Sunday afternoons when they
have to move from the Methodist Church in Woodbridge Road
which is closing down in the summer;
-
in regard to
the recent changes to our women’s ministry policy I reported
that Bishop Christopher’s interpretation of the legislation
was that resolution C presupposes resolutions A & B – so in
rescinding the latter the former no longer applies even though
we did not have a two-thirds majority against it – Bishop
Christopher is now approaching Bishop Norman to explore our
continuing in a relationship with Bishop Norman, not as a PEV
but as an assistant bishop in the diocese, and in a new and
appropriate way which would be positive and helpful for us all
as an inclusive church community committed to reconciliation;
-
Fr Barnaby
guided us through an excellent presentation of a new order for
baptisms at the Parish Mass – everyone was very pleased with
how this would be more inclusive for the baptism families and
would involve them in the “whole” service;
-
Catherine
Ferguson made some suggestions about how we might want to use
the Loseley chapel area, and we shall be considering this
further at the next meeting (so any thoughts from the
congregation would be welcome!);
·
we received the parish accounts, presented by Patrick Andrew as
our PCC Treasurer, before being sent for formal examination
ready for the APCM - Patrick was thanked for his continued
support in this role and for all his hard work on our behalf;
-
various
policies were renewed: Safeguarding (with ‘DBS’ now replacing
‘Child Protection’) – our Ecological Commitment (to which we
added: “we now begin the process of being recognized as an
eco-congregation” ) – Organ (committing us to maintain and
care properly for our historic instrument);
-
I shared with
the PCC my annual review of weekday worship – with my proposal
to concentrate on one Daily Liturgy in church being accepted,
together with either Morning or Evening Prayer being said
privately and extended as a reading & study period – we then
went on to consider any ways in which the daily prayer in
church might connect with our own prayer, one suggestion being
to make use of the Church of England ‘daily prayer feed’
on-line;
-
Mark Boland
was appointed as a Foundation Governor at St Nicholas School;
-
John Milan was
approved to be trained as an Occasional Preacher at St
Nicolas (as John usually attends the 8.30am Sunday Mass he
will be invited to the APCM to be introduced to everyone);
-
Ray and Vicky
Lamb were approved for training as Communion Assistants;
-
lastly, we
agreed to buy a reduced price voice recorder so that sermons
etc can be heard on our website.
