Our Infant School, St Nicolas' CE Infants, is tucked away nearby, just off the Portsmouth Road, has a secure ‘village’ feel, and a close relationship with this church. Excellent standards of achievement are maintained, providing children with a very happy and positive start to their school days.
Here are some quotes from the school's recent Ofsted report:
"The hallmark of this good school is, in the words of
one parent, 'its friendly and warm caring ethos'. In this
secure environment, pupils develop good personal qualities.
They are kind and considerate to one another, and polite to
visitors. Pupils behave well and report that there is no
bullying in the school."
"Pupils' achievement is outstanding, and they show their
enjoyment of learning through their high attendance. One
parent commented, 'My child looks forward to school each day and
feels proud of her achievements.'"
"One parent commented, 'The school is a positive and
nurturing community,' and this reflects its local popularity.
The school uses its local resources fully. For example,
pupils regularly go to activities in the linked church and the
vicar takes frequent school assemblies."
"Pupils with a range of additional needs are given good
care and support, and children whose circumstances may make them
vulnerable are given particularly good support. The school
goes to great lengths to provide for them, for instance by
ensuring that teaching assistants are well-trained and effective
in supporting them."

The school's recent SIAS* report was full of praise, and
describes the school as, ".. a school full of joy and
happiness where a Christian sense and expression of love
permeates the life of the school. This has created a
community in which children are highly valued as individuals.
They consequently do well in their learning and make excellent
progress in their personal development."
It also states, "St Nicolas is a very joyous school
community with happy, confident children who view life from a very
positive perspective. There is a wonderful sense of
togetherness based on strong relationships in which everyone is
valued and treated with respect. This was seen in lessons
where pupils were encouraged to express their views and opinions
and did so openly, knowing that they would be listened to by
adults and other children. The school is at an exciting
stage in its development as it moves further towards placing a
core set of values at the heart of its ethos and curriculum."
St Nicolas' Church's Fr Andrew ".. is the chair of governors
and plays an important part in the life of the school.
Children regard him as an integral presence in the school and
consider it natural that both he and the parish church should play
a part in the life of their church school."
