Our Patron Saint - Nicolas' |
The Saint
Our patron, St Nicolas, was bishop of Myra in the 4th century. He is one of the most popular and venerated of saints in both the East and the West.
From early times he was remembered for his generosity. For example, there is the story of how he gave three bags of gold to three girls as a marriage dowry. Indeed this good bishop who really lived, and who continues to encourage us in the life of the Church today with his prayers, is the true identity of Santa Claus!
St Nicolas is also the patron saint of children, sailors – and unmarried girls.
